
Hospice is a program of supportive services, which provides physical,counseling,social and spiritual care to persons with a life limiting illness, and their families. Hospice seeks not to deny death, but to affirm life, encouraging people to live each day as fully as possible.

The hospice nurse makes regularly scheduled visits to the patient providing expert pain management and symptom control techniques. Throughout the time the patient is under the care of hospice, the nurse keeps the primary physician informed of the patient's condition. Nurses provide the complete spectrum of skilled nursing care and are available by phone 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Home health aides can provide assistance with the personal care for the patient.
The hospice social worker provides assistance with practical and financial concerns as well as emotional support, counseling and bereavement follow-up. The social worker also evaluates the need for other support services by the family and facilitate communication between the family and community agencies.

Chaplains provide spiritual support to patients and families. Chaplains can also assist with memorial services and funeral arrangements.
The Hospice bereavement Coordinator provides continuing contact and support for caregivers for 13 months year following the death of a loved one. Hospice also sponsors bereavement groups and support for anyone in the community who has experienced a death of a family member, a friend, or similar losses.
