We provide grief support
Grief may be experienced in response to physical losses, such as death, or in response to symbolic or social losses such as divorce or loss of a job. The grief experience can be affected by one’s history and support system. Taking care of yourself and accessing the support of friends and family can help you cope with your grief experience.
There is no right way to grieve. It is an individual process and a natural part of life. Life won’t be the same after a loss, but experiencing your grief will allow you to adjust to life after loss.
Grief lasts as long as it takes to adjust to the changes in your life after your loss. It can be for months, or even years. Grief has no timetable; thoughts, emotions, behaviors and other responses may come and go. There can be a wide range of emotions involved when one is grieving. Some of those feelings include numbness, shock, relief, guilt, anger, memory loss, inability to sleep, loneliness and more. Hope Hospice can offer many tips on how to work through your grief.
Bereavement
Hope Hospice believes in the healing power of one person talking face-to-face with another person. Sometimes, all we need is someone we trust to talk to, someone who will be non-judgmental and will really listen to what we have to say. Hope Hospice provides that through a Bereavement Coordinator.
Our goal is to walk with you, to provide you with the support you need as you journey through the grief after the death of your loved one. As time passes, we pull back our support gradually and as time goes on, you are able to walk through a “new normal” life on your own. We do not expect you to “get over it” or “forget about it,” we help you discover a continued meaning in life. We encourage you to cherish the memories of your loved one-the love you have for each other-to help you carry on those feelings in a new way.
Grief Workshops
Hope Hospice sponsors Grief Workshops offered at various times throughout the year and are held at various locations throughout the community. The Grief Workshops are designed for anyone who needs to heal their heart and find hope after the loss of a loved one. The loss does not have to be recent. The loss may be a result of a prolonged illness, sudden death, suicide, homicide or accident.
The workshops gather once a week for up to 6 weeks to discuss the information presented and share ideas. You participate at whatever level you are comfortable.
The sessions will be co-facilitated by trained “grief companions” from Hope Hospice. At least one of the facilitators has gone through the loss of a significant loved one in their own life. Contact us for the next workshop dates.
Memorial Service
In the fall and spring, Hope Hospice holds a Memorial Service. At the Memorial Service, we remember the lives of those we have served during the past year. Your loved one’s name will be mentioned, unless you tell us you do not want your loved one included. You will be sent an invitation to the service.
We move the location around our service area. Each service follows a similar format, yet with a different theme each time. There may also be special music, readings, and an inspirational message by area clergy.
